Where is the College World Series? What to know about Charles Schwab Field in Omaha


The NCAA Baseball Tournament is set, meaning we are one step closer to the College World Series.

Starting Friday, the tournament gets going with regional rounds hosted across 16 host sites. The 16 regional winners advance to the super-regional round, and finally, eight teams head to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. Following double-elimination play, a best-of-three-game series determines the 2024 national champion.

Last season, LSU defeated SEC rival Florida 2-1 to collect the Tigers' seventh championship in program history. Both teams are back in the field of 64 this season.

When is the College World Series?

  • College World Series: Starts Friday, June 14
  • CWS finals: Saturday, June 22-Monday, 24 (if necessary)

The College World Series starts on Friday, June 14, and runs through Thursday, June 20, with "if-necessary" bracket games. The best-of-three-game series to determine the national champion starts on Saturday, June 22. The "if-necessary" Game 3 is scheduled for Monday, June 24.

Where is the College World Series played?

The first College World Series was played in 1947 at Huames Field in Kalamazoo, Michigan. It was held again in 1948 before moving to Lawrence Stadium in Wichita, Kansas, in 1949. The World Series moved to Omaha in 1950 and has been played there since.

From 1950 to 2010, the World Series was played at Rosenblatt Stadium. TD Ameritrade Park Omaha opened in 2011, and the tournament moved there. In 2021, the stadium was re-branded as Charles Schwab Field. It has a capacity of 24,000 fans but can hold up to 35,000 fans.

The NCAA and the CWS signed a contract to keep the College World Series in Omaha through at least 2036.
