Michael Robertson makes clutch catch to send Florida to Men's College World Series final
Florida snagged a spot in the Men's College World Series final after a clutch, game-ending catch by outfielder Michael Robertson.
The 3-2 win over TCU on Wednesday sends the Gators to their first MCWS finals since 2017, when they won the national championship. They will play the winner of No. 1 seed Wake Forest vs. LSU in a best-of-three series starting Saturday.
The play happened with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Down to his final strike, Horned Frogs' infielder Brayden Taylor hit a deep fly ball into center field. Robertson — who entered in the ninth inning as a pinch runner — tracked the ball and crashed into the outfield wall to make the catch, ending TCU's season and sending Florida to its fourth final all-time.
"It's one of those balls at that point in the game, that it's do or die. I'm running through the wall if I have to," Robertson told NCAA Baseball. "So I knew I was getting close to the wall as it was flying and I knew I had to jump there at the end and luckily, I was able to squeeze it."
Florida has won eight straight games, its second-longest win streak of the season, and is now 53-15 on the season. The Gators also became the fourth team in MCWS history to reach the finals after winning each of their first three games by a single run, according to ESPN.
TCU's run to the MCWS semifinals came after losing its first game against Oral Roberts. The Horned Frogs had to win two single-elimination games to set up a matchup with the Gators. TCU finished the season with a 44-24 record and won 21 of its final 25 games.
