Texas A&M baseball had runners on second and third with one out in the top of the ninth inning, facing a 3-1 deficit.

Texas turned to freshman closer Dylan Volantis, who shut the door and converted the save to secure a win in game two of the Lonestar Showdown series.

The Aggies couldn't find enough timely hitting on Saturday afternoon in Austin, Texas, dropping the series after losing game one on Friday night 2-1. They'll look to avoid a series sweep on Sunday.

Designated hitter Ethan Mendoza nearly provided all of Texas' offense on Saturday, as he smashed a solo home run in the third inning before roping a double that scored another run in the seventh inning. The Longhorns' other run came courtesy of a Texas A&M error on a steal attempt.

Both starting pitchers were more than good enough to win, as Texas A&M's Justin Lamkin pitched 5.1 innings and allowed one run on four hits and two walks while striking out eight. Texas' Luke Harrison pitched six innings, striking out six batters while allowing only one run.

Volantis drops in a beauty of a breaking ball, and Kiel watches it go by him for the strikeout looking.

Texas takes the series after the 3-2 win and looks to complete the series sweep on Sunday.

Hayden Schott pinch hits and plates a run on a groundball to the second baseman, although Texas gets the second out of the inning.

Aggies with a runner on third with two outs and are looking to tie it up as Terrence Kiel II comes up to the plate.

Thomas Burns starts the inning, but gets replaced by Max Grubbs, who allows a sac bunt. That was Grubb's lone batter he faced before Texas turns to left-handed closer Dylan Volantis to get the Longhorns' final two outs.

Texas walks the first two batters of the top of the ninth. Texas A&M has runners on first and second with no outs, with the Longhorns needing to get out of a jam to secure a win in game two.

What a sequence by Burns, who forces a pop up before striking out Texas A&M's 4- and 5-hole hitters Caden Sorrell and Wyatt Henseler to get out of the eighth inning unscatched.

Texas A&M with a nice start to the eighth inning, as leadoff man Terrence Kiel II legs out his second double of the day. LaViolette then walks to put Aggies runners on first and second with no outs while facing a 3-1 deficit.

Ethan Mendoza continues his strong day, doubling to left-center field to plate Jayden Duplantiar from first base.

Gavin Kash ejected

Texas A&M substitute Gavin Kash is ejected from the game, as he didn't immediately go back to the dugout after getting chippy with Will Gasparino after the bottom of the seventh inning. The two shared words before Kash appeared to walk toward the Longhorns dugout, which by rule results in ejection.

Kash is also suspended for Sunday's game, according to the ESPN broadcast.

Thomas Burns goes three-up, three-down

Burns has no trouble with the Aggies in relief, retiring the side in order to start the seventh inning. Aggies down to their final six outs with a 2-1 deficit.

Luke Harrison's afternoon is done. His final line: 6.0 innings, one run on four hits and a walk with six strikeouts.

Burns has a big fastball, as his first pitch to start the seventh inning registers at 99 miles per hour.

Wilson gets the strikeout for the first out of the inning, but Jalin Flores takes off for third. Bear Harrison's pickoff throw isn't fielded by Wyatt Henseler, allowing Flores to score from second.

Kaeden Kent had a chance to get Flores out at home plate, but Kent's throw was just off-line enough to allow the Texas run. Longhorns lead 2-1 in bottom of the sixth inning.

Jackson faces just one hitter before Texas A&M turns to lefty Kaiden Wilson out of the bullpen to face Texas' Casey Borba. Aggies coach Michael Earley going with a different matchup in a pivotal point of the game.

Lamkin walks the leadoff hitter before being replaced by Luke Jackson, whose errant throw on a pick-off attempt moves the Texas runner from first to second. Jackson then walks another hitter to put runners on first and second.

Texas has a chance to take a lead here.

Lamkin gets taken out midway through the sixth inning after firing his 96th pitch. His impressive day is over.

His final line: 5.1 innings, one earned run on four hits and two walks with eight strikeouts.

Lamkin, meanwhile, has struck out seven batters through four innings with two hits, one being the solo home run by Ethan Mendoza.

Texas second baseman Jayden Duplainter appears to make a nice backhand play to get out of the top of the fifth inning, but Jace LaViolette ends up beating the throw after review.

Lamkin has been nails outside of the solo home run he allowed in the third inning, as he picks up his seventh strikeout to end the fourth inning. The left-hander has allowed two hits and a walk through four innings of work.

Harrison strikes out Royo to get out of the top of the fourth inning, keeping Texas A&M from plating another run. The Aggies doubled to put runners on second and third with two outs before Harrison's fastball freezes Royo for the strikeout looking.
