One of the most anticipated series of the 2025 college baseball season ended in a sweep.

Behind three hits and two RBI from Adrian Rodriguez, the last of which came on a solo home run that broke a 5-5 tie in the bottom of the eighth inning, No. 1 Texas defeated visiting Texas A&M 6-5 Sunday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field in Austin to complete a three-game sweep of its archrival.

Each of the Longhorns’ wins in the series came by one run, joining a 2-1 victory on Friday and a 3-2 win on Saturday.

With the win, Texas improved to 37-5 overall and 19-2 in its inaugural season in the SEC. The Aggies, the No. 1 team in the preseason Paste BN Sports Coaches Poll, fell to 24-19 and 8-13 in the SEC. Texas A&M had entered the series having won 10 of its previous 11 games.

Grayson Saunier (1-0) earned the win for Texas after throwing 1⅓ scoreless innings of relief while Caden McCoy (3-2) took the loss for the Aggies. Rylan Galvan added two hits and two RBI for the Longhorns. Caden Sorrell had three hits and two RBI, including his seventh home run of the season, for Texas A&M in a losing effort.

When it comes to these two schools and programs, the intrigue during the weekend series went beyond what happened on the field. After leading Texas A&M to the championship of last year's College World Series, coach Jim Schlossnagle controversially left the Aggies to become the new head coach at Texas, where he has the Longhorns atop the best conference in college baseball.

Texas wins 6-5, completes sweep of Texas A&M

For the third time in as many days, Texas gets a one-run win against Texas A&M, this one coming 6-5 on Sunday after Adrian Rodriguez's eighth-inning solo shot broke a 5-5 tie.

The Aggies went down swinging (literally), getting runners on first and second with one out in the top of the ninth inning, but Kaeden Kent grounded into a double play, with Longhorns first baseman Kimble Schuessler collecting the ball, tossing it to second and getting back to first to be on the receiving end of the game-ending 3-4-3 exchange.

Adrian Rodriguez homer gives Texas the lead

In a back-and-forth game, Texas may have just gotten a decisive final blow.

Leading off the bottom of the eighth inning, Adrian Rodriguez hit an opposite-field shot to left that carries and just cleared the wall, a solo home run that broke a 5-5 deadlock and gave the Longhorns a 6-5 lead heading into the top of the ninth inning.

Rodriguez is now 3 for 3 at the plate with two RBI and two extra-base hits, the most recent of which has his team three outs away from a sweep.

Texas gets out of eighth inning jam

Texas A&M appeared poised to take the lead in the eighth inning, with runners on first and third and two outs, but Texas pitcher Grayson Saunier was able to get Aggies star Jace LaViolette to pop out to shortstop to end the threat and move to the bottom half of the inning with the score still tied.

Caden Sorrell homer ties the game for Texas A&M

About as quickly as Texas A&M lost its lead, it tied things up.

After surrendering a three-run sixth inning to Texas, the Aggies got a solo home run from Caden Sorrell to left center that quickly left the ballpark to tie the game 5-5 in the top of the seventh inning.

Sorrell now has two hits, two RBI and a miraculous catch earlier in the afternoon that potentially saved his team a run.

Texas takes the lead

For the first time today, the No. 1 Longhorns are ahead.

With the bases loaded and two outs, and with his team trailing 4-3, Ryan Galvan ripped a single up the middle to bring home two runs and put Texas ahead of Texas A&M in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Longhorns trailed 4-2 entering the inning, but prior to Galvan's heroics, they had gotten within one after a wild pitch from Myles Patton sent Kimble Schuessler home from third base.

Texas A&M goes to the bullpen again

Weston Moss lasts only 17 pitches for the Aggies after failing to record an out and walking three consecutive Texas batters to load the bases. Luke Jackson is in the game now, with two outs and a chance to help Texas A&M escape the inning with its one-run lead intact.

Texas A&M making pitching change

With its lead down to one run, Texas A&M is turning to its bullpen. With two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Aggies have pulled starter Myles Patton 94 pitches into his outing and inserted their best reliever, Weston Moss, to take over on the mound. Patton gave up three earned runs and six hits while striking out five and walking two in 5⅔ innings.

Caden Sorrell makes amazing diving catch

For as much animosity as Texas and Texas A&M have, the programs share at least one thing in common — a spectacular catch from an outfielder Sunday.

Texas' Tommy Farmer IV appeared to have an extra-base hit to right center in the bottom of the fourth inning, but Texas A&M right fielder Caden Sorrell flew high into the air to come down with a catch that will surely find its way onto the SportsCenter top 10 later today. Sorrell helped keep the Longhorns scoreless in the inning.

Texas A&M pulls back in front

Texas A&M responded to Texas' two-run inning with one of its own. With the bases loaded, Wyatt Henseler ripped a double down the left-field line, bringing two runs home to give the Aggies a two-run lead heading into the bottom of the fourth inning.

Texas ties game with 2-run third

After a slow start, Texas' bats are starting to warm up. Texas A&M starter Myles Patton had retired the first six batters, but the Longhorns got to him in the third inning. Adrian Rodriguez, after his web gem in the top half of the inning, hit an RBI double to get Texas on the board. Two batters later, Rodriguez crossed the plate and tied the game after a sacrifice fly to right field from Ethan Mendoza.

Adrian Rodriguez diving catch ends inning for Texas

What initially looked like an extra-base hit for Texas A&M ultimately produced nothing for the Aggies. Shortstop Kaeden Kent hit an opposite-field ball to left field that appeared like it would come down for a double, but Adrian Rodriguez makes a terrific diving catch near the warning track to end the inning.

Texas makes pitching change

Jason Flores' day on the mound for Texas was a short one.

After giving up two runs in the first inning, the Longhorns' starting pitcher walked the first two Texas A&M batters in the second inning, prompting coach Jim Schlossnagle to make a change. He pulled Flores after just 38 pitches and put in Andre Duplantier II.

Texas A&M gets on the board first

The Aggies strike first in their attempt to avoid a sweep, getting a pair of runs across the plate in the first inning. A Caden Sorrell double to right center drove the first run home and, during the next at-bat, Bear Harrison singled to center to double Texas A&M's lead to 2-0.

All told, it was a 29-pitch first inning for Texas' Jason Flores.
