Texas baseball vs Houston Christian highlights: Longhorns dominate Austin Regional opener

Texas baseball opened the 2025 NCAA baseball tournament with a statement.
The No. 2 national seed Longhorns used a five-run fifth inning to take down Houston Christian 7-1 in the opener of the Austin Regional at UFCU Disch-Falk Field in Austin, Texas. Ethan Walker earned the start and combined with Grayson Saunier and Hudson Hamilton to limit the Huskies to two runs on eight hits, six strikeouts and a walk.
Saunier picked up the victory while Hamilton collected the save. Both pitched 3 ⅔ innings after Walker pitched 1 ⅔ innings. Kimble Schuessler drove in a pair of runs while Jonah Williams scored a pair of runs.
Texas will play the winner of UTSA and Kansas State on Saturday in the winner's bracket.
The Longhorns have won 14 consecutive regional home games and improved to 156-59-1 in the regional round of the NCAA Tournament, which includes an 88-22 record in Austin.

Hudson Hamilton walked Katcher Halligan to open his outing to load the bases with just one out. However, he was able to pick off Luke Bard from third base for the second out and then struck out Graham Laxton looking to escape the jam.

Houston Christian has runners on first and second with one out, forcing a pitching change for Texas. Hudson Hamilton is replacing Grayson Saunier.
Saunier retired Rhett Hendricks on a lineout to shortstop, but allowed back-to-back singles to Luke Bard and Matthew Leiterman.

Jonah Williams put a charge into a pitch from Nick Ferazzi, but center fielder Kenneth Dutka makes a diving grab to prevent the Longhorns from adding on their lead in the inning.
Parker Edward's final line: 4 ⅔ innings, seven runs allowed (one earned), seven hits, two walks and two strikeouts.
Will Gasparino drives in run on double
Will Gasparino drives in another Texas run to make it 7-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning. This forces Parker Edwards out of the game, with Nick Ferazzi set to enter out of the bullpen.
The Longhorns have batted around in the inning and scored five runs. They still have runners on second and third with Jonah Williams batting. Williams opened the inning by reaching on an error by Jeremy Rader.

Texas adds on with an RBI single by Adrian Rodriguez to score Kimble Schuessler from third base. Schuessler stole third base earlier in the at bat.
The next hitter, Jalin Flores, reaches on a throwing error by third baseman Matthew Leiterman. It's the fourth error of the game for Houston Christian and the second of the inning, which has led to three runs.
Kimble Schuessler extends Texas baseball lead
Kimble Schuessler singles to right field on the first pitch with two outs and plates two runs to extend the Texas lead to 4-1. Ethan Mendoza was barely able to get in for the second run.
Houston Christian challenged if Mendoza scored before he was tagged out at home, but the call on the field stands. It's 4-1 Texas in the bottom of the fifth.
Jeremy Rader injured on stolen base attempt, leaves game
Houston Christian second baseman Jeremy Rader is having a rough fifth inning. He committed an error on a groundball to second base to open the inning. A couple of minutes later, he went down with an injury when he was hit by Jonah Williams' spikes on a stolen base attempt near his shoulder area.
Williams is helped to his feet and is being removed from the game. Williams apologized to Rader following the injury. Graham Laxton takes over for Rader.
Grayson Saunier retires Houston Christian 1-2-3
After allowing a run in the fourth inning, Grayson Saunier responds with a 1-2-3 fifth inning to keep the score 2-1.
Texas has 9-hole hitter Jonah Williams, followed by Ethan Mendoza and Ryan Galvan due up to start the inning. It will be starter Parker Edwards' third time through the Longhorn order.

Jeremy Rader lines a ball down the third base line for an RBI double to get Houston Christian on the board. Matthew Leiterman began the rally with a two-out single.
The Huskies have runners on second and third with two outs and a chance to take the lead, but Grayson Saunier gets Trevor Roper to popout to end the inning.

Parker Edwards has a much easier time in the second inning, retiring Texas 1-2-3 to put up another 0 on the board. Edwards recorded two groundball outs and a foul out on seven pitches.

Grayson Saunier gets Jeremy Radar to pop up to the shortstop to end the inning and escape a threat. The Longhorns will come to bat again looking to gain the lead.

With runners on first and second and two outs, starter Ethan Walker is done for the day. Right-hander Grayson Saunier will replace Walker to try and work out of the jam.

The Longhorns challenge the call, but replays confirm the call on the field. Texas has one challenge remaining.

Ethan Walker needs just six pitches to record a 1-2-3 top of the first inning against Houston Christian. He got a fly ball to left, a fly ball to right and a grounder to shortstop to get through the order in just his second start of the season.
