For just the second time in program history and the first since dogpiling on the mound at Charles Schwab Field, Coastal Carolina is back at the College World Series.

The Chanticleers do so as the hottest team in the country.

On top of its talent, Coastal Carolina arrives in Omaha as one of the more intriguing teams from the eight-team CWS field, headlined by its video game-like 23-game win streak.

A 23-game win streak is no small feat, regardless of the level of college baseball. The Chanticleers' win streak comes amid a historic season for a top mid-level program − which entered this year's NCAA baseball tournament selection show ranked eighth in the NCAA's RPI rankings − in recent years.

Coastal Carolina begins its chase for a second national championship on June 13 at 2 p.m. ET against Arizona at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha.

Here's what you need to know about Coastal Carolina's win streak ahead of the CWS:

Coastal Carolina baseball win streak

Coastal Carolina enters its opening game at the College World Series vs. Arizona riding a 23-game win streak. It is the longest active win streak in the country, and the longest win streak entering the College World Series since the 1999 NCAA Baseball Tournament.

The Chanticleers' win streak dates back to April 26, when Coastal Carolina plated eight runs in the top of the 11th inning to defeat James Madison 9-2. Coastal Carolina trailed James Madison 1-0 in the top of the eighth inning on April 25 before the game was suspended until the following day due to inclement weather.

Coastal Carolina's last loss came on the road on April 22 against the College of Charleston.

Since that win against James Madison on April 26, Coastal Carolina has swept nine consecutive weekend series, which includes the postseason, along with picking up midweek non-conference wins against UNC-Greensboro on April 29 and then-No. 9 Clemson on May 6.

Coastal Carolina cruised through the Sun Belt Conference Tournament by outscoring its three opponents — Georgia Southern, Marshall (twice) and Southern Miss — 25-9 in four games. The Chanticleers' win over Southern Miss helped secure Coastal Carolina its fourth regional host bid as a top 16 team in the field.

Since the start of the postseason, Coastal Carolina has continued to become one of the hottest teams in the country: a 5-0 record, a 40-16 run differential and two upset wins over No. 4 Auburn.

Despite that, having a consistent national ranking in the Paste BN Sports Baseball Coaches Poll, winning the Sun Belt Tournament and earning a top 16 national seed in the NCAA Tournament, Coastal Carolina coach Kevin Schnall made one thing known after his team won its second-ever super regional title: this season is no fluke.

"This is no Cinderella," Schnall said after the Chanticleers advanced to the CWS. "I wanna make sure that's known. This is no Cinderella.

"Coastal Carolina the past century, only eight teams have made the regionals more than us. During that same period we have the sixth-best win percentage and the ninth-most wins. This is not a Cinderella story. We're one of the most premier, most successful college baseball programs in the entire country."
