Georgia's Carson Beck returns for final play of SEC championship win vs Texas
Even at less than full strength, Carson Beck can lead Georgia football to monumental wins.
The latest was the SEC conference championship win that put aside any questions surrounding Beck's toughness.
In the final play of overtime, the Georgia starting quarterback returned to the game to hand the ball off to running back Trevor Etienne, who pushed through the Longhorns' defensive line for the score. Beck replaced backup Gunner Stockton, who had to leave the game after taking a gruesome hit that popped his helmet off at the end of a quarterback scramble.
Saturday's eventual game-winning play for the Bulldogs, which clinched a spot in the College Football Playoff, was the first time Beck touched the field in the second half. He sustained a hand injury just before halftime when the 6-foot-2 quarterback took a hit from Texas' Trey Moore that dropped him to the ground.
Several members of the Georgia medical staff rushed out onto the field to tend to Beck, who walked off the field on his own power. Kirby Smart told ESPN's Holly Rowe at the start of the second half that Beck was ruled out of the game, prompting Stockton to come in and lead the Bulldogs to their eventual third SEC title under Smart.
Beck and Stockton combined to go 19-for-29 passing for 127 passing yards and an interception (Stockton's) Saturday against Texas, while Drew Bobo added one pass for nine yards.
With the win, Georgia likely has secured one of the four automatic bids to the College Football Playoff that come with a first-round bye. The Bulldogs will learn their official seeding and ranking at noon ET during the final CFP rankings show.
