Indiana football: Did beating Michigan give the Hoosiers a boost in the rankings?

BLOOMINGTON — Indiana football survived a late push from Michigan at Memorial Stadium to close out a 20-15 win on Saturday and stay undefeated.

The No. 8 Hoosiers (10-0; 7-0) have double-digit wins for the first time in program history and they keep climbing the polls amidst their unprecedented winning streak.

"It tells you a lot about the resiliency of this team, its competitive character," Indiana coach Curt Cignetti said. "At the end of the day, they all count as one, whether it's 72-6 or 3-2. They count as one. You know what? We're going to take the win over the Michigan Wolverines, and the Indiana Hoosiers will enjoy being undefeated for 24 hours."

Indiana moved up four spots and ranked No. 6 in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll on Sunday. The Hoosiers moved up to No. 5 in the AP Poll, the highest they've been in the poll since Nov. 13, 1967.

The team will wait until Tuesday to see how the victory will impact its College Football Playoff ranking. In the first rankings of the season, IU ranked No. 8 with a No. 9 seed that set up a potential first-round matchup on the road against Tennessee.

Indiana has a bye week ahead of a showdown against No. 2 Ohio State in Columbus. The Buckeyes beat Purdue 45-0 on Saturday and head to Wrigley Field next week for a game against Northwestern.
