LSU football's Kyren Lacy surrenders, released on negligent homicide, hit-and-run death charges

Former LSU football wide receiver Kyren Lacy turned himself into authorities Sunday following his involvement in a fatal car accident that took place in December.
According to Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office police reports, Lacy was arrested Sunday, Jan. 12, on charges of negligent homicide, hit-and-run driving with serious injury or death ― both felony charges ― as well as reckless operation with accident. Lacy, 24, was released the same day on $151,000 bond.
The Louisiana State Police has a warrant out for Lacy's arrest after its investigation into the incident on Louisiana Highway 20 on Dec. 17. In a release put out on Friday, state police said they were in communication with Lacy and his representation in regards to him turning himself in.
Herman Hall, age 78, was killed in a head-on collision while he was a passenger in a 2017 Kia Sorento.
In its investigation, police determined that Lacy, driving in a 2023 Dodge Charger, "recklessly passed multiple vehicles at a high rate of speed by crossing the centerline" into the oncoming lane of traffic in a don't pass zone.
A pickup truck swerved right onto the shoulder of the highway to avoid a collision with Lacy's vehicle and another vehicle, a 2017 Kia Cadenza, veered to the left to evade Lacy, but it made head-on impact with the Sorento.
Hall was transported to a local hospital where he died from injuries sustained during the accident.
State Police say Lacy "drove the crash scene" following the accident and fled without stopping to help or report the crash and his involvement in it.
An LSU football spokesperson said Friday to The Daily Advertiser: "We have no comment at this time out of respect for the legal process."
Lacy announced he was entering the 2025 NFL Draft two days following the reported date of the fatal crash. He did not have any college eligibility remaining and had already opted out of the playing in the Texas Bowl with the Tigers.
The playmaker began his career at Louisiana, where he played two seasons with the Ragin' Cajuns before transferring to LSU ahead of the 2022 season.
He finished his career with 162 receptions for 2,360 yards and 26 touchdowns. At LSU, Lacy had 112 catches for 1,628 yards and 16 TDs. As a senior in 2024, Lacy posted a career-high 58 catches for 866 yards and nine scores.
