Marquette's David Joplin gets invitation to play for Milwaukee Bucks in NBA summer league
David Joplin is living a pretty cool basketball journey, from Brookfield Central High School to Marquette to getting his first pro shot with his hometown team.
Joplin has received an invitation to be on the Bucks' NBA summer-league team, his agent Barry Aberdeen told the Journal Sentinel on June 29.
Since the MU season ended in March, Joplin has been criss-crossing the country in hopes of attracting the interest of NBA teams. He played in post-college events like the Portsmouth Invitational and the NABC All-Star Game at the Final Four, in which Joplin won MVP. Joplin also had a pro day event with his agency in Las Vegas and several individual workouts with NBA teams.
David Joplin played MU-record 139 games under Shaka Smart
Joplin finished at MU as the program's all-time leader in games played with 139. He scored 1,306 points over his four seasons, and the 6-foot-8 Joplin is seventh in program history with 229 three-pointers.
During the Golden Eagles' run to Big East regular-season and tournament titles in the 2022-23 season, Joplin was the conference's sixth man of the year and also on the league's all-tournament team.
Joplin is the son of two former Milwaukee Police Department officers. After winning a WIAA Division 1 state championship and starring at Brookfield Central, Joplin committed to Shaka Smart when he was the head coach at Texas.
When Smart took over at MU, Joplin decided to stick around his hometown. At MU, Smart and the coaching staff pushed Joplin to get into elite shape. Known for his unshakable confidence as a shooter, Joplin also dramatically improved as a defender over his four seasons.
Now he has a foot in the door in the NBA.
