By the end of the night, the Big 12 will crown a softball champion that isn't Oklahoma.
The Sooners, winners of six of the last seven Big 12 softball championships, have taken their historic success to the SEC, leaving a massive vacuum in their former conference alongside Big 12 defector Texas. That creates a huge opportunity for current Big 12 teams who, as a result of winning Saturday's conference championship, will receive an automatic bid to the larger 2025 NCAA softball tournament.
Fighting for that spot will be Texas Tech and Arizona in Saturday's Big 12 softball tournament championship game, which has a noon ET first pitch at Devon Park in Oklahoma City.
To get to Saturday's championship game, the Red Raiders defeated Baylor 4-0 in the quarterfinals and Arizona State 18-0 in the semifinals. As for the Wildcats, they defeated UCF in the quarterfinals and Iowa State in the semifinals. It's the first Big 12 championship game that won't feature the Sooners since 2008, and just the second time the Big 12 crown won't go to Oklahoma since 2017.
