Longhorns' star Reese Atwood went 4-for-4 with five RBI in the 10-2 victory over Eastern Illinois at Red & Charline McCombs Field in Austin, Texas, to open the 2025 NCAA softball tournament. Now, Texas will take on Michigan in the winner's bracket with a chance to advance to the regional championship game on Saturday.
In Friday's win, Texas scored four runs in each of the first and fifth innings. The fifth inning runs helped the Longhorns earn the eight-run rule victory to avoid playing a longer game.
Michigan is coming off a 4-3 victory over UCF to advance to the winner's bracket. A two-run home run by Lauren Putz in the top of the sixth finished off a late rally by the Wolverines to pull off the victory.
