Before the weekend wraps up, either Tennessee or UCLA softball will be leaving the 2025 Women's College World Series with their national championship dreams shattered.
The No. 7 Lady Vols and No. 9 Bruins will meet Sunday in a WCWS elimination game at Devon Park in Oklahoma City. The winner of the matchup will advance to face off against No. 6 Texas in the national semifinals on June 2. The Longhorns shook up the WCWS outlook May 31 with a 4-2 victory against four-time reigning national champion Oklahoma.
Tennessee managed to avoid elimination May 30 with an 11-3 drubbing of No. 3 Florida in five innings, but it still faces the possibility of getting bounced from the double-elimination tournament due to squandering a two-run lead in the seventh inning in a walk-off loss to Oklahoma on May 29..
UCLA, meanwhile, was unable to follow up its walk-off victory Thursday night against No. 16 Oregon with another win, instead falling to NiJaree Canady and No. 12 Texas Tech 3-1.
