Last year, Oklahoma and Texas Tech softball were conference mates, with the former winning its fourth-consecutive NCAA championship and the latter managing just an 8-16 record in Big 12 play.

Twelve months later, quite a bit has changed.

The No. 2 Sooners and No. 12 Red Raiders will meet in the semifinals of the 2025 Women's College World Series on June 2 at Devon Park in Oklahoma City.

Texas Tech, undefeated through its first two games of its first-ever WCWS appearance, needs just one win against Oklahoma to advance to the WCWS championship series. The Sooners, meanwhile, need back-to-back wins against the Red Raiders to make it back to chase a fifth national title in a row.

Even for a program with such a rich championship pedigree, it could be quite the tall order for coach Patty Gasso's squad, which may have to twice defeat 2024 national player of the year NiJaree Canady. Canady transferred to Texas Tech last offseason after two seasons at Stanford, lured in part by a million-dollar NIL deal.

The game will be a reunion of sorts for Oklahoma ace Sam Landry, who transferred to the Sooners after the 2024 season from Louisiana-Lafayette. Landry played for three seasons for Texas Tech coach Gerry Glasco, who's in his first season with the Red Raiders and brought several of Texas Tech's players with him from the Ragin' Cajuns.
