Fantasy football injury report: Derek Carr may be back

Here are some of the injury questions that will impact fantasy owners the most in Week 6:

All players designated as questionable unless otherwise noted.

Fantasy rankings:  How the players stack up at each position

RB Wendell Smallwood, Philadelphia Eagles (Thursday)

After missing Sunday's game with a knee injury, Smallwood has yet to practice this week. He seems unlikely to be ready -- or play a significant role -- with the Eagles traveling to Carolina on Thursday. Don't expect much from LeGarrette Blount or Corey Clement against the Panthers' No. 6 run defense.

QB Derek Carr, Oakland Raiders

Carr has a chance to return this week when the Raiders host the Chargers, a mere two weeks after suffering a broken bone in his back. But don't count on him for much. Raiders quarterbacks haven't thrown for more than 160 yards in any of their last four games -- and the Chargers are giving up an average of 190 yards a game, fourth-best in the league.

RB Bilal Powell, New York Jets

Powell sat out the second half of Sunday's game and hasn't yet begun to practice. There's still a chance he can play in an excellent matchup at home vs. New England. However, Elijah McGuire's ability to carry the load may allow Powell time to recover more fully.

RB Rob Kelley, Washington Redskins

Even with a bye week to rest his ailing ankle, Kelley is still a "long shot" to play Sunday vs. the 49ers, according to coach Jay Gruden. That means Samaje Perine is likely to get the start and Chris Thompson will get plenty of touches in the passing game.

WR Julio Jones, Atlanta Falcons

Another injury with extra time to heal over the bye week, Jones has returned to practice despite a hip flexor injury he suffered in Week 4. He should be good to go against the Dolphins' 22nd-ranked pass defense.

TE Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs

In the process of having an outstanding game, Kelce suffered a concussion at the end of the first half of Sunday's win over Houston. He still hasn't returned to the field so he could be a game-time decision. Unfortunately, the Chiefs host the Steelers in a late-afternoon game so alternatives may be limited.

WR Sterling Shepard, New York Giants (Sunday night)

Shepard was in a walking boot after last Sunday's game against the Chargers -- and that made him the healthiest of the team's wide receivers. He didn't participate in practice Wednesday because of the sprained ankle and looks like he could join Odell Beckham, Brandon Marshall and Dwayne Harris on the sidelines.

QB Marcus Mariota, Tennessee Titans (Monday night)

The Titans offense sputtered last week with Matt Cassel (21-for-32 for 141 yards, TD) at the helm. Coach Mike Mularkey says Mariota is day-to-day, but fantasy owners would be risking plenty if they held a spot open for Mariota on Monday night without seeing him practice in full before then.
