16 photos from David Ortiz's final game
It's the end of an era: David Ortiz swung his bat for the last time on Monday night when Indians beat the Red Sox in a clean sweep to end Boston's postseason. It's hard to believe that Papi won't be back next year at spring training, at Opening Day, during the dog days of summer, or on the chilly nights of the playoffs; for well over a decade, he's been the most important player on a team that went from underdogs to three-time World Series champions in under ten years.
Ortiz meant so much to Boston, and Fenway was packed to the brim with Red Sox faithful there to celebrate his last game, even if it didn't end the way Boston wanted it to. After the loss, Ortiz came out to the mound, tears streaming down his face, to thank his fans and his [expletive] city, gracious even in defeat.
Just throwing this out there, David, if you're listening: There's still time to change your mind.
