High school kicker surprised hit went viral

A female high school kicker whose opponent-leveling hit went viral last week told the Philadelphia Daily News that she was shocked by all the attention it brought.

"Honestly, it's not that I'm not a fan of attention, but I really didn't think it was that big of a deal until everyone else did," Kelly Macnamara said. "So it was really overwhelming, and I didn't know what to think."

Macnamara, who joined the team as the first female kicker in 2015, seemed to come out of nowhere on the hit:

She told the newspaper she was just looking to stop the play.

"I just remember looking at him, kind of thinking, 'Oh, my God . . . I don't know what I'm doing,' " she said. "Then I just tried to knock him out" of bounds.
