Curry lost to pro golfer in shooting contest
This is a random thing that happened when Steph Curry went to play at a pro-am event at the Safeway Open on Wednesday.
The NBA MVP got into a sort of shooting contest with Harold Varner III. From a long distance away, they fired up shots at a hoop that was on the side of the course. Varner found the bottom of the net first.
This is exactly what happened, per the San Francisco Chronicle's Ron Kroichick (it should also be noted that in this story, it says Varner is a "big Cavaliers fan" - so a Cavs fan beat Curry):
As they reached the green on No. 17, one fan tossed a basketball to Curry and implored him to shoot. He swished about a 25-footer, then retreated to a distance he figured was the equivalent of half-court.
Curry missed several attempts, as did Varner. Then the PGA Tour pro beat the NBA MVP at his own game, punctuating an uncommon round of golf.
As you can see from the video, the reaction of the crowd and Varner was pretty epic. And SkratchTV had a hilarious post-contest interview with Curry.
Q: Steph, what was it like to get beaten one-on-one by a professional golfer?
Curry: "I don't know, there's something about Harold, and out here on the green. If I got him on the court, I like my chances."
When Varner was asked how it felt to beat Curry, the golfer insisted that he didn't really beat him. Varner said that hey, he just made the shot first, and the ground they were shooting from was uneven.
Varner's a nice guy for answering like he did. If I made a shot before Curry in front of a wild crowd, I'd brag about that for life. Plus, the fact that Varner's a Cavaliers fan, he could've had a field day with that.
