Dallas Stars to honor five fallen officers

On July 7th, five police officers lost their lives after violence erupted during a protest march in Dallas.

The Dallas Stars will honor the officers and the sacrifice they made with special badges on their helmets for Thursday's home opener.

The silver decals resemble a police badge and will feature the names of the five officers who died.

As the violence unfolded in Dallas earlier this summer, Stars players sent out their well-wishes for the community.

The Dallas Cowboys wanted to wear similar badges on their helmets for their first preseason game, but were denied permission by the NFL. The NHL allows helmet decals to be worn by teams at almost anytime, which is in contrast to the NFL's policy, mandating all teams adhere to stricter uniform guidelines.

The Stars will face the Anaheim Ducks at American Airlines Center at 8:30 p.m. eastern.
