Nationals fans chant ‘Metro sucks!’ as last train leaves with Dodgers leading in 7th
Nationals fans have a slight problem with night games: The Washington, D.C., Metro shuts down around midnight. So as the Nationals played against the Dodgers in Game 5 of the NLDS on Thursday night, the announcement of the time of the last train was made in the seventh inning with the Dodgers leading 4-1.
Bryce Harper even commented about it before the game, per CSN Mid-Atlantic:
"I hope everybody takes an Uber and doesn't take the train. Once the train leaves at 11:30, our stadium is empty. Hopefully that doesn't happen," he said, referring to the uncertainty of D.C. Metro staying open for late playoff games."
Fans were not happy when they were informed that the last train would be leaving soon. They booed and chanted, "Metro sucks!"
HOWEVER, not so many of the fans went on to leave. Some of them did, but most of them stuck around, as noted by For The Win's Ted Berg, who is at the game.
Here's a photo he took. That looks pretty much full, and it looks the same way on the broadcast and in other post-Metro announcement seventh inning photos.
These tweets seem to be a slight exaggeration.
After these tweets, the Nationals scored to chip at the Dodgers' lead. At the end of the seventh, Washington trails by just one, 4-3. Props to all you fans who stick around. You never know what can happen in the playoffs.
