Washington teams have trouble clinching at home

Not to throw salt on the wound in our nation's capital on Friday morning, but the Washington Nationals' loss continues a not-so-great trend in D.C. over the past few years.

On Thursday, before Game 5 of the NLDS, the Washington Post's Dan Steinberg covered the futility of Washington teams in the playoffs in clinching home contests over the last seven years:

The past 13 times the Caps, Nats, Redskins and Wizards have had a chance to advance in the playoffs at home, they've gone a collective 3-10.

Thanks to Clayton Kershaw and the Los Angeles Dodgers, Washington teams are now 3-11. Home field/ice/court advantage? Not so much, recently. It is worth noting some of those teams later won their series on the road.

So if you see a Nats fan today, or frankly anyone walking around Washington looking dejected, give them a hug today.
