Tiger Woods regrets dropping out of Stanford
Amid news that Tiger Woods is launching a new brand - "TGR," the exact purpose of which is unknown but will deal primarily with his "off-course ventures" - the 14-time major champ announced he would feature on a series of Thursday-night talk shows.
Charlie Rose is among those to host Tiger on Thursday, and in a teaser-quote for the interview, Tiger was quoted as saying he regretted not staying at Stanford for another year.
Tiger was at Stanford for two years between 1994 and 1996 before leaving to turn pro. It was probably the smart move at the time: Tiger was arguably the most dominant amateur golfer of all-time (at the very least, the most dominant since Bobby Jones), winning an astonishing six-consecutive USGA championships before opting for a big-money pro career.
It'll be interesting to hear the context of the quote, but looking at the way things turned out, it's hard to argue Tiger made the wrong decision not sticking around. Had he stayed Tiger wouldn't have won the 1997 Masters - hard to imagine golf's history without that signature moment.
