6 NFL officials' wildly different day jobs

There's some intriguing news coming out of the NFL: VP of Football Operations Troy Vincent told the Associated Press he "expects" the league to hire up to 17 officials who will be full-timers.

Will this improve the performance of much-criticized zebras who hear every week about calls they miss? Time will tell.

Here's what's more certain: Part-time officials have held some quirky day jobs outside of football. Here are a few examples:

1. Walt Coleman

Arguably the most famous example of a part-timer whose other job couldn't have less to do with football. He's a dairy farmer, specifically for Coleman Dairy in Little Rock.

2. Ed Hochuli

The man with the best physique among sports officials is a lawyer at Jones, Skelton & Hochuli. Now, look at that photo above. Wouldn't you be nervous about being questioned by that guy during a trial? Me too.

3. Gene Steratore

Bet you'd never guess he's the founder of the Steratore Sanitary Supply company, located in Washington, Pennsylvania.

4. Mike Carey

Hold on there, wise guy. Before you go joking about the job he once held at CBS, know this: Carey is also a well-known inventor who co-founded Seirus Innovation, which focuses on ski equipment.

5. Jerome Boger

When he's not throwing yellow hankies, he's a underwriter for Allstate Insurance.

6. Pete Morelli

The longtime official kind of has the perfect day job: He's been principal at Saint Mary's High School in Stockton, California since 1989 before he was elevated to president in 2014.
