Stats that prove Steve Smith is a Hall of Famer
It's not quite fair to call Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. underrated, but there's certainly an element of under-appreciation when it comes to the NFL's iron man receiver.
His team tumbled out of playoff contention on Sunday night after a heartbreaking loss to the Steelers, but nevertheless, we wanted to take a moment to give some props to the 37-year-old receiver for this Hall of Fame receiver.
- He was drafted in the third round in 2001, and he's the only receiver from his class still int he league.
- He's made the Pro Bowl five different times.
- He's made two Super Bowl appearances.
- Just three times in his 16 NFL seasons has the quarterback on Smith's team made the Pro Bowl (Jake Delhomme in 2005; Cam Newton in 2011 and 2013).
- He's the only receiver since 1992 to win the triple crown - 2005 NFL leader in receptions, yards and touchdowns.
- Per NFL.com: In the 16-game era, Smith (2005) and Isaac Bruce (1996) are the only players to lead the NFL in receiving yards while playing on a team that ranked in the bottom-five in pass attempts.
- He averaged more than 1,200 yards in his six full seasons with Jake Delhomme as his quarterback.
- He's seventh in career receiving yards (14,697)
- He's 12th in total career receptions.
- He's 13th in total starts.
- He's one of just 14 receivers with more than 1,000 receptions.
