Leafs defenseman goes down in agony after check

Washington, D.C. - Watching a hockey player writhe in agony is never fun.

Midway through the second period of the Washington Capitals-Toronto Maple Leafs Game 2, Capitals defenseman Brooks Orpik leveled the Leafs Roman Polak with a huge bodycheck, that caught Polak right on the knee.

This is brutal to watch:

It looks like the injury maybe more the result of the fall than the hit but it's hard to tell. The look on his face says everything.

Polak was on the ground for a significant amount of time before being helped off by his teammates.

This is just something you never want to see happen, but it could be especially bad for the Leafs, since Polak is one of their top defenseman.

Currently, the Leafs lead the Capitals 3-2 at the start of the third period.
