Dale Earnhardt Jr. befriends Honduran animals

NASCAR drivers don't get much down time between races. If they're lucky, it's a couple days off before they head to the next track.

But that didn't stop Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his wife, Amy, from jetting off for a quick island vacation to Roatán, Honduras this week before Sunday's AAA 400 Drive for Autism at Dover International Speedway.

As Junior explained on his podcast, the Dale Jr. Download, Amy has some family members who often vacation on the Caribbean island just north of the mainland, and after a couple years of trying, they finally got the newlyweds to join them.

Some welcomed time away from the track, Earnhardt said they've been hanging out on the beach, having a few beers and, according to his Instagram account, making some awesome new friends.
