Mayweather thinks McGregor won't make weight
With four days to go until the much-anticipated fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor on Aug. 26, the trash talk hasn't stopped. And for Mayweather, he's now targeting McGregor's weight.
The two fighters are set to fight at the 154-pound limit of light middleweight on Saturday. Mayweather doesn't know exactly how heavy McGregor currently is, but he seems sure that the UFC star is over the 154-pound limit and will have trouble making weight.
Mayweather spoke to FightHype.com on Monday night and called McGregor "extremely heavy."
Mayweather said:
"Conor McGregor is extremely heavy right now. Extremely heavy. I think he's 164 … 164. So, he's still got 10 pounds to go. Y'all get that extra money if you can't make the weight. Get those extra millions ready, Dana (White). Or UFC, get those extra millions ready. Somebody gotta pay a fine. But he's gotta get that weight down. A true champion is disciplined and very responsible. But we'll see … I don't think he's gonna make the weight. Even if he do make the weight, that's even better. But if he don't make the weight, we still gonna fight, but it's gonna be a heavy fine. Give me that money!"
Under normal circumstances, McGregor would be given an additional two hours if he failed to make weight, but this isn't a typical championship fight. As Mayweather said, the fight will go on regardless of McGregor's weight, but his failure to make weight would result in heavy fines for the UFC star.
At the same time, though, Mayweather has no idea what McGregor actually weighs. With the nine-figure pay day McGregor is looking at, it would be shocking for him to jeopardize that by showing up to the weigh-in over the 154-pound limit.
McGregor's last UFC fight against Eddie Alvarez was fought for UFC's Lightweight Championship - a 155-pound limit. McGregor weighed 154.4 pounds at weigh-in.
