Kyrie has no regrets about not talking to LeBron before trade request

Should Kyrie Irving have to speak with LeBron James before requesting a trade away from the Cavaliers? According to an incredible exchange between the new Celtics guard and Stephen A. Smith on First Take on Monday, the answer is a resounding no.

The exchange after that:

Smith: Why not?:

Irving: "Why would I have to?"

Smith: "If you don't speak to somebody about that they might take it personally. "

Irving: "Yeah"

Smith: "Do you care about that at all?"

Irving: "No"

Irving's point isn't totally incorrect: James isn't his supervisor, he doesn't own the Cavaliers (at least yet). If it was any other job, you wouldn't ask your co-workers for permission to go look for another job. And Irving never asked to be on James team - even if it won him a championship in the end. As Iman Shumpert pointed out to For The Win last week, the NBA is a business. Irving made a business decision.

"I'm sure Ky at some point is going to talk to everybody, the same way he talked to me," Shumpert insisted last week, which to be honest after watching this exchange on First Take seems a little less likely.
