See NASCAR's incredible on-track tributes to Dale Jr.
HOMESTEAD, Fla. - Before the green flag flew for Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s last Cup Series race, NASCAR, some of its drivers and the different teams' crew members paid tribute to the No. 88 Chevrolet driver.
First before race day, multiple Ford drivers - including Joey Logano, Ryan Blaney, Kurt Busch and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. - jumped in some Mustangs and did a few burnouts on the back of the track at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Not your average donut, they worked together to carve the number 88 into the track.
Then Sunday during driver introductions and the pre-race festivities, a giant "Thank you" flag was driven around the 1.5-mile track, as Earnhardt followed behind it and fans roared.
And for the finishing touch, when it was time for the cars to all exit pit road and make their way onto the track, Earnhardt drove slowly with his hand out the window and high-fived the members of every team's pit crew.
Junior also asked Matt Kenseth - who was a rookie with Earnhardt back in 2000 - to join him for this part. Kenseth does not have a ride for next season, despite wanting to continue to race.
