Kiffin would love to play Alabama, his team wouldn't
Florida Atlantic coach Lane Kiffin is doing exactly what he was hired to do.
The Owls' first-year head coach transformed the program from a team that finished 3-9 the last three seasons to 10-3 Conference USA champions. Florida Atlantic won the conference title Saturday with a 41-17 demolition of North Texas.
After the game, Kiffin talked about the crazy atmosphere and how Owls fans were chanting, "We want Bama!" While he certainly has turned this team around, as the Crimson Tide's former offensive coordinator, he knows exactly what Alabama would do to his team.
Talking about the chant, he said:
"I was like, 'No, not so fast. You ain't ready for that yet.' So I've got no idea about bowls. So I don't even know how that process really works. I'm just trying to win a game. …
"I would love to play Bama. I would. I'd feel sorry for our players, but I'd like it."
Kiffin had several great postgame celebration moments Saturday. On the field, he gave a shoutout to Washington State head coach Mike Leach, who - after his team upset USC back in September - compared the stadium atmosphere to Woodstock.
Here are a few other great moments from FAU's dominating conference title game win.
