Herbstreit walked off set when Ohio State missed CFP

The College Football Playoff had its first taste of a serious controversy on Sunday after the committee selected Alabama for the fourth and final playoff spot over Big Ten champion Ohio State.

ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit didn't see that decision coming at all.

When the CFP selection show revealed that the Buckeyes were out of the playoff, the former Ohio State quarterback briefly walked off the set. The crew couldn't hold back the laughter, and viewers were left with an empty chair.

Herbstreit would return after a few seconds and explain why he was so surprised.

"I got up and walked off. And I think symbolic of what if you're watching this and you're just a college football fan. We all said, 'Well, I think it should be Alabama, but it's gonna be Ohio State. They're gonna do the politically correct thing.' Committee just made a statement."

Ohio State and Wisconsin came in at No. 5 and No. 6 respectively.
