FIU center wins lawn mower race before Gasparilla Bowl

Since the loss of the Poulan Weed-Eater Independence Bowl in the mid-90s - it's now the Walk-On's Independence Bowl - college football fans have been missing a lawn care title sponsor/goofy bowl game name. Not anymore.

This year, Bad Boy Mowers announced a deal to sponsor the Gasparilla Bowl through 2019. And now, fans have another bowl game with a name so bad it's almost good to have fun with.

What comes along with a lawn-mowing title sponsor? Lawn mover races, obviously.

Temple and Florida International are playing in the Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl on Thursday at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida (8 p.m. ET), and the teams raced lawn mowers at Busch Gardens on Monday. More via the Tampa Bay Times:

Head coaches Butch Davis of FIU and Geoff Collins of Temple each "drafted" a team of drivers (sports celebrities, media personalities, one of their coaches and one of their players) to navigate a course at Gwazi Field in what was called the Bad Boy Mowers race.

FIU center and Gaither High School alum Shane McGough was carried off the field on the shoulders of his teammates after winning the championship race.
