Ref turns back on UNC star Joel Berry
With under ten minutes left in a tight game between No. 11 North Carolina and Florida State, UNC senior Joel Berry II got the cold shoulder from veteran ACC official Ted Valentine after a blatant missed call.
As North Carolina attempted to advance the ball up court, Kenny Williams lobbed a pass forward toward Berry, who was held by FSU's Terance Mann as he ran up court. The ball went out of bounds for a UNC turnover, and when Berry tried to protest the non-call, Valentine responded by turning his back on the Most Outstanding Player in last year's NCAA tournament.
On the next possession, Mann scored an and-1 to increase the Seminoles' lead to five points, and UNC went on to lose by a single point, 81-80.
Valentine was also strangely caught by TV microphones chatting with fans.
