Lonzo won't tell LaVar to stop calling out Lakers

Less than a month ago, Lakers leadership had met with LaVar Ball and asked him to stop criticizing head coach Luke Walton in the media. That request was honored just briefly.

In an interview with ESPN in Lithuania, LaVar had said that Walton had lost the locker room and added, "Nobody wants to play for him. I can see it." Those comments put Lakers rookie Lonzo Ball in the difficult position of both defending his father and his head coach.

Lonzo spoke to the media on Sunday and was asked where he stood on LaVar's comments and if Walton had indeed lost the locker room. Lonzo remained as diplomatic as he could - he didn't argue with his father and he didn't throw Walton under the bus. Lonzo essentially admitted he was powerless in silencing LaVar.

"He's going to speak his mind. That's not gonna change," Lonzo said.

When asked if he liked Walton as his coach, Lonzo said, "I'll play for anybody."

The Lakers have lost nine straight games. They play the last-place Atlanta Hawks on Sunday.
