Georgetown asks people to give up phones for a game
Patrick Ewing returning to Georgetown isn't the only way students and fans are being reminded of a day before cell phones.
The marketing department is offering a promotion to encourage college kids (and others) to (gasp) get off of their phones during the game and … make new friends.
In one section of the Hoyas' game against St. John's later this month, there will be no cell phones allowed. In fact, there will even be a cell phone check provided for those who need to carry their phones to the game but can manage to part with them for the entire basketball event.
(As much as I'm sort of laughing with the Hoyas here on how hard it will be for some people to give up their phones for a game, I would probably also hate this a lot.)
There will also be name-tags to encourage face-to-face interaction (which you can't escape from by looking down at a phone) and paper tickets because, again, you have no phone.
