Why Pats' Super Bowl uniform choice matters

The Patriots just made the first big "play" of Super Bowl LII. Well, only if you are the superstitious type, that is. It appears that Bill Belichick, or whoever is in charge of picking out New England's uniforms, is…

The Patriots are the home team for Super Bowl LII. The AFC team always is in even-numbered Super Bowls. This is the fifth time Belichick's Pats have been the home team and the first they have ever elected to wear white instead of their home blues.

Why change now? It may have something to do with the fact that, under Belichick, New England is undefeated in Super Bowls when wearing white and 2-2 when wearing blue, with both losses coming to an NFC East team. The Patriots aren't taking any chances.

Another good sign for Pats fans: New England has played three "bird" teams in Super Bowls - the Eagles, Seahawks and Falcons - and are undefeated in such games. Do the Eagles even stand a chance?
