Blake Griffin found out he was being traded from Twitter
Oops.
Blake Griffin found out that he was being traded to the Pistons the same way the rest of the NBA world did, he told ESPN this week.
Twitter.
"Basketball is a business, the NBA is a business, and they made a decision," Griffin told ESPN. "The only thing I just wish I had known or had the opportunity to talk to somebody beforehand. Finding out through Twitter, through other people is a tough way to find out when you've been with a franchise for so long. But at the end of the day, basketball is a business, and I want to play where a team wants me. And that's why I'm excited about being here."
Griffin, who had his first press conference with the Pistons on Wednesday, tweeted out a hilarious and perfect response to the reports - despite being apparently surprised by them.
In the surprising deal, the Clippers sent him, forward Brice Johnson and center Willie Reed to Detroit in exchange for Avery Bradley, Tobias Harris, Boban Marjanovic and a first- and second-round draft pick.
"The franchise is storied and has had tremendous success," Griffin told reporters at the Palace in Auburn Hills on Wednesday.
"The history, the fan base, the love from the fans and energy has been unbelievable. Just in this past 24 hours a lot of good will for being on the ground here."
