Joel Embiid reacts to 'freak' injury: 'I gotta trust The Process'
Joel Embiid is the latest NBA superstar to miss time in a season that has been rife with injuries to star players, but the Sixers big man may return before Philadelphia's season is over.
After knocking heads with rookie guard Markelle Fultz - who recently returned to the court for the first time since October - Embiid left Wednesday's game with what the team called a "contusion" and was taken to a hospital.
The Sixers initially said Wednesday that Embiid had not suffered a concussion, but announced Thursday that Embiid suffered an orbital fracture and a concussion from the collision. Embiid will undergo surgery, and ESPN's Zach Lowe reports that Embiid could potentially return in 2-4 weeks.
Embiid, for one, is trying to remain positive.
The NBA playoffs begin in 15 days, meaning Embiid could miss the entire first round. The Sixers, who are on an eight-game winning streak, are currently fourth in the East, and would face Indianapolis in the first round if the season ended today.
