Megyn Kelly beat Danica in go-kart race in studio
A little more than a month away from her last race - IndyCar's Indy 500 in May - Danica Patrick stopped by Megyn Kelly TODAY to talk about her career and her future and to have a friendly faux go-kart race with the show's host.
Kelly admitted she used to race go-karts as a kid in upstate New York in the parking lot behind her house, but asked Patrick how she realized this could be a career path when she was still racing go-karts.
"Well, I was really good at it," Patrick said.
"Yeah that's the difference between us," Kelly joked back.
But then when the pair jumped in go-karts and raced around the studio for Kelly's show, Patrick took the lead before encountering an unexpected obstacle: the audience members' seats. Patrick spun a little before the doorway off the set, and Kelly took and held onto the lead.
"We play dirty here," Kelly joked afterward about messing with Patrick's go-kart.
Before racing Kelly, they talked about if men have an inherent advantage racing compared with women. Patrick reiterated what she said last month ago about racing, specifically with regard to Formula 1.
When Kelly plainly asked Patrick if men have an advantage, she said, "No," adding:
"I don't think we'll ever really know but no, I don't think they have an advantage. … If I've observed anything, I think it's just that men are structurally bigger. They're a little stronger. They're not necessarily fitter, that's for sure. I take that seriously. But then the other part is I've always felt like I just have this ability to stay calm in situations and it's not to say guys can't. But it's just proven to be true many times, and I feel intuitive as well."
Patrick's last race before retiring is the Indy 500 on May 27. Her last NASCAR race was the Daytona 500 in February.
