Daniel Bryan hated previous WWE role

After Daniel Bryan was forced to announce his retirement in February of 2016, he returned to the company a few months later in a new role as the general manager of SmackDown Live. As he wasn't medically cleared to wrestle, Bryan's week-to-week duties usually included an in-ring talking segment or backstage interview, and he starred on the now defunct post-show Talking Smack.

Fans loved Bryan's inclusion in the show and were simply happy to see him involved, but Bryan now admits that he wasn't happy with the job.

In an interview with SPORTbible during the WWE's tour of the UK, Bryan opened up on the difficulty of playing the role of an authority figure on the weekly show without being able to wrestle.

Via SPORTbible:

"It was very difficult. I disliked it, strongly. I would try and leave as soon as I could and if I found out they might not have a segment for me on TV, I would be texting the writers being like, 'Hey can I just stay home' - a portion of that is not liking it and portion of that is because now I'm being away from Brie and my baby to do something I'm not passionate about. That was a weird mental thing for me."

Now that he's finally cleared and back to action, Bryan is living his dream once again - and hopefully new SmackDown GM Paige is having a more enjoyable experience.
