Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s Father's Day breakfast in bed was fig newton, coffee

Dale Earnhardt Jr. was among the handful of NASCAR drivers who celebrated their first Father's Day last weekend. Amy Earnhardt gave birth to Isla Rose on April 30, and the couple has been generous with sharing photos of their newborn daughter.

So on Earnhardt's Dale Jr. Download podcast - which returned after a three-week hiatus - the new dad shared stories from his first Father's Day, which he said included Isla wearing an adorable onesie with "Hello, Daddy" written on it.

While he struggled to recall if Isla "gave" him a gift - and admitted he might get in trouble with Amy for that one - he did mention he got breakfast in bed. Junior seems like a full-on two eggs, lots of bacon, toast and orange juice kind of guy, right? Apparently not.

"She did (make it a special day). I did get breakfast in bed. Well, it was a fig newton and a cup of coffee."

When his podcast co-host Mike Davis reacted in disbelief asking him why he'd want that, Dale Jr. explained:

"Well that was what I wanted. Apple cinnamon, man. It's real good. It's the Nature's (Bakery) - it's the one that used to sponsor Danica (Patrick). Nature's Bakery, they're good! …

"So I'm laying in bed, and Amy brings that up to the bed, and hands me Isla. And she's wearing this little 'Hey, Daddy' onesie. And Isla was in a great mood, and we just laid in bed. Looked at Isla, and she's smiling. She's just now getting to where she smiles. She's smiled at Amy a few times, but she smiles at me a lot, so I can tell when Isla's in a smiling mood. And it's rare, it's not often. But maybe one time every day, I'll catch her when she's like ready to have fun."

As he continued to take some heat for his peculiar Father's Day breakfast request, Earnhardt added that it's what he was eating for his first meal every day that week "I'm gonna try to not eat a big breakfast because we were having so much fun at lunch and dinner."
