Belgium's goal was eerily similar to Donovan's

Belgium overcame a 2-goal, second-half deficit against Japan in Monday's Round of 16 matchup with three unanswered goals - Nacer Chadli's winner coming at the end of stoppage time.

But for U.S. fans, the incredible moment will bring back World Cup memories. Belgium's counterattack and goal unfolded in a strikingly similar fashion to Landon Donovan's late winner against Algeria in 2010.

First, here is Chadli's goal.

Now, take a look at (you know you want to) Donovan's goal from the 2010 World Cup.

The similarities are undeniable.

Both counters developed off a save and quick throw-in. Where Tim Howard distributed the ball to Donovan perfectly in 2010, Thibaut Courtois hit Kevin De Bruyne in stride. Both goals needed one more pass to set up the crucial cross towards goal. While Clint Dempsey was denied to set up a rebound for Donovan, Romelu Lukaku let the cross go behind him for Chadli to finish.

Donovan himself noticed the similarity.

As did U.S. soccer fans.

Belgium will face Brazil in the quarterfinal on Friday.
