A fan gave Daniel Poncedeleon's dad a foul ball
It's been an eventful past couple days for foul balls at MLB games.
On Sunday, an adult Cubs fan appeared to take a foul ball from a young fan and sent the internet into a frenzy. Well, Daniel Poncedeleon's big-league debut presented an entirely different opportunity for a foul-ball-catching fan.
Poncedeleon pitched seven no-hit innings just 14 months after suffering a life-threatening brain injury. His entire family was in attendance for Monday's game in Cincinnati, and in that seventh inning, a foul ball was hit into the same section of his father, Ramon.
The ball was just out of Ramon's grasp, but the fan who did catch it made sure Ramon left his son's incredible MLB debut with a souvenir.
We didn't see who caught the ball - though ESPN did report it was a kid during Monday's SportsCenter. Either way, it was a great gesture for an already-remarkable comeback story.
Poncedeleon was removed from the game after seven no-hit innings due to his 116-pitch count. The Reds would rally to win, 2-1, in the ninth.
