Fan convinces Red Sox's Steve Pearce to drop fly ball

Orioles fans have very little reason to get enthused over their team this season, which is sitting in the bottom of the American League with 29 wins. So, it appears, they're creating their own fun.

On Wednesday night, before the O's and Red Sox were postponed, a fan appeared to get the ultimate victory - even if they never show up in the box score.

Red Sox first baseman Steve Pearce was running to grab a fly ball when it appeared he stopped short. And then, as the ball dropped in behind him with no one to catch it, he looked annoyed. And stunned. It seems, according to reporters on the scene, that someone in the stands fooled him with an "I got it call."

"I don't know if he missed it or if he heard someone in the stands call it," said one announcer.

Rain ended the game a few minutes later, which also greatly annoyed the Red Sox who weren't sure why it started in the first place.

Before the game, the Orioles had warm words for Pearce, who played stints in Baltimore from 2012-2016.

From the Boston Globe:

"That guy can hit. He doesn't draw attention to himself. He's always in the cage or working defensively," Orioles center fielder Adam Jones said. "Good guy to have around."
