Mets’ 24-4 win over Phillies was comically historic
The Mets crushed the Phillies 24-4 in the first game of their doubleheader on Thursday. It was an amazing game for them and it was a franchise record number of runs.
But what was pretty funny about this happening is that just a couple weeks ago they gave up 25 runs in a brutal loss to the Nationals. So yes, within weeks the Mets have managed to win 24-4 and lose 25-4 - and guess what, that's something that hasn't happened in 124 years, according to Elias Sports.
As ESPN Stats & Info noted, no team has scored more than 24 or more runs and allowed 24 or more runs in the same season since 1894. Man, oh man.
That's one way to get into the history books.
