Rams' Gurley excited to skip the preseason

The Los Angeles Rams will be without star running back Todd Gurley on Saturday for the team's Week 3 preseason home game against Houston - and Gurley is overjoyed with coach Sean McVay's decision to rule him out for the entire preseason schedule.

McVay has opted to rest the majority of his starters in the preseason thus far, and he's not letting Gurley take the field until Week 1 at Oakland. The coach also said Thursday that Jared Goff's status in the preseason is uncertain.

For Gurley, who has made it clear that he doesn't feel the preseason is meaningful, being able to watch the games from the sidelines is a "dream."

Via ESPN:

"That is everyone's dream, to not play in the preseason…. Some guys just like being out there to get a feel for it and to see. But not this guy."

There's obviously some level of value in playing a warm-up game or two, but a full month of preseason games is severe overkill, and we've already seen a handful of season-ending injuries through the first two weeks of preseason action.
