Billie Jean King slams French Open's decision on Serena's catsuit

Serena Williams brushed off the controversy over the French Open banning her catsuit next year, but the tennis world is not ready to just let it go.

Legendary tennis player Billie Jean King slammed the organizers' decision in a tweet, echoing what many critics have said of the reported new dress code. "The policing of women's bodies must end," she wrote in a tweet on Saturday. "The 'respect' that's needed is for the exceptional talent Serena Williams brings to the game."

French Tennis Federation president Bernard Giudicelli said in an interview earlier this month that the catsuit would be banned as part of a new dress code. "You have to respect the game and the place," he said. "We are going to ask the manufacturers to let us know what is coming. I believe we have gone too far."

Williams wore the catsuit in part to help prevent blood clots, which she has dealt with including after the delivery of her daughter last year.

The news of the French Open's ban outraged supporters - including her husband - who took to social media on Friday to call for organizers to reconsider.
