Gerald McCoy apologized to Roethlisberger mid-hit

The NFL's rules for protecting the quarterbacks have been a major source of controversy early this NFL season, and now we're at the point where players are apologizing while hitting quarterbacks.

During ESPN's Monday Night Football broadcast of Steelers-Buccaneers, star defensive tackle Gerald McCoy was mic'd up for the game. He was charged with a personal foul penalty for roughing the passer in the first half, and he knew it was coming.

That's because he apologized to Ben Roethlisberger mid-contact.

As McCoy lowered his helmet into Roethlisberger's chest, we could hear him shout, "My fault, Ben!" The play was still going on, and McCoy was already saying he was sorry.

He repeated it again as the Steelers quarterback was helped to his feet.

Sportsmanship doesn't have to be lost - even when committing a personal foul, apparently.
