Cam Newton leveled a much larger linebacker
Perhaps you've heard that Cam Newton, at 6-foot-5 and 245 pounds, could probably play any number of positions beside QB on a football field.
Here's this. Not many blocking tight ends block like this.
Kareem Martin is listed at 6-foot-6, 272 pounds and Newton trucked him without even thinking about it. To be fair to Martin, it seems like he may not have seen Newton coming, either because of poor spatial awareness or because he just assumed that, like 95 percent of QBs ever to play the game, Newton would bail out as soon as he could.
The question now is: Did the Panthers really design a play that would force their franchise QB to run at a larger player to throw a block? Or did Newton just decide to get into the fray regardless?
Whatever the case, it worked. That play goes for no gain if Newton doesn't clear out that edge.
