Eric Reid calls Panthers win 'bittersweet' since Kaepernick hasn't signed

Eric Reid returned to the NFL Sunday, playing safety in Carolina's dramatic 33-31 win over the New York Giants.

As he did with the San Francisco 49ers over the last seasons, he kneeled during the playing of the national anthem. He has stated, repeatedly, that his protest is meant to call attention to issues of police brutality, systemic racism and social injustice in the United States.

After the game he discussed his decision to bring the protest from (generally thought of as progressive) San Francisco to (generally thought of as not) Carolina.

Reid did tell coach Ron Rivera before the game that he was going to kneel, but also said he didn't believe he needed anyone's approval to do so.

He also discussed his former teammate Colin Kaepernick, who was the first to kneel but remains unsigned (both Reid and Kaepernick are pursuing collusion grievances against the league.)

Cam Newton, as Cam Newton does, wore a weird hat and tried to say something mostly uncontroversial (for either side) when asked about Reid.
